چکیده

Combined with all density-dependent factors, the per capita growth rate of a species may be nonmonotonic. One important consequence is that species may suffer from weak Allee effects or strong Allee effects. In this paper, we study the permanence of a discrete-time two-species-interaction model with non-monotonic per capita growth rates for the first time. By using the average Lyapunov functions and extending the ecological concept of the relative nonlinearity, we find a simple sufficient condition for guaranteeing the permanence of systems that can model complicated two-species interactions. The extended relative nonlinearity allows us to fully characterize the effects of nonlinearities in the per capita growth functions with non-monotonicity. These results are illustrated with specific two species competition and predator-prey models of generic forms with non-monotone per capita growth rates.

Permanence of a general discrete-time two-species-interaction model with nonlinear per-capita growth rates

The per-capita growth rate of a species is influenced by density-independent, positive and negative density-dependent factors. These factors can lead to nonlinearity with a consequence that species may process multiple nontrivial equilibria in its single state (e.g., Allee effects). This makes the study of permanence of discrete-time multi-species population models very challenging due to the c...

Transitional Dynamics in the Solow-Swan Growth Model with AK Technology and Logistic Population Change∗

This paper offers an alternative way, based on the logistic population growth hypothesis, to yield transitional dynamics in the standard AK model with exogenous savings rate. Within this framework, we show that the dynamics of the capital stock per person and its growth rate can be non-monotonic over time. Moreover, even in the presence of negative growth, the capital stock per-capita can conve...

Permanence and Uniformly Asymptotic Stability of Almost Periodic Positive Solutions for a Dynamic Commensalism Model on Time Scales

In this paper, we study dynamic commensalism model with nonmonotic functional response, density dependent birth rates on time scales and derive sufficient conditions for the permanence. We also establish the existence and uniform asymptotic stability of unique almost periodic positive solution of the model by using Lyapunov functional method.

Evolution of natal dispersal in spatially heterogenous environments.

Understanding the evolution of dispersal is an important issue in evolutionary ecology. For continuous time models in which individuals disperse throughout their lifetime, it has been shown that a balanced dispersal strategy, which results in an ideal free distribution, is evolutionary stable in spatially varying but temporally constant environments. Many species, however, primarily disperse pr...

Non-monotonicity of fertility in human capital accumulation and economic growth

This paper investigates the relationship between per capita human capital investment and the fertility rate. In the first part of the article we analyze a theoretical model with endogenous birth rate in which we do not make any assumption on how fertility directly affects per capita human capital accumulation. The results obtained in this model are then compared with those of a more traditional...
